So why would anyone want to start a psychology clinic? Well, in 1989, when Dr. Cox got out of grad school, our goal was to speak to a missing niche in caring for hurting people. At that time in Jackson, biblical counseling was available from pastors and churches; and clinical psychological treatment was available from the professional community, but no one was offering professionally driven therapy that was informed both by a professional AND a biblical worldview at the same time. Dr. Cox wanted to build a staff of psychologists who offered such treatment. All of our doctors are both seminary trained and have either Ph.D’s or Psy.D’s in clinical psychology. Our goal is to offer individual, marital, child assessment and professional supervision to the Jackson community that is biblically informed, yet also the most competent professionally. Since then, Live Oak Psychological Associates has added two other doctors to our staff. Dr. Jim Brown has been a co-owner of Live Oak for almost 20 years, and Dr. C. Bufkin Moore has been with us for 10 years.
